Overview

Many people love golf. WRX members will be already familiar with Honma, a brand known for creating intricately crafted golf clubs. It is also one of the fastest growing and most prestigious golf brands. For others, this review will be the first time they’ve heard of Honma, or seen their iconic “mole in a hole” cloisonne and wondered, “What’s that?”

That is about to change. Honma has been a staple in Japan’s Domestic Market for over 60 years. Now, the company is aiming to be a well-known brand in America and Europe. It is the company’s debut in national Hot List contests. This means that you will be able to test their products (e.g. the TW737) at large-box retail outlets like the PGA Superstore.

While Honma has traditionally been associated with extremely high-end clubs even gold-plated at times the Tour World line is priced similarly with other forged irons from domestic manufacturers. Tour World is also the line used by tour professionals like Hideto Tanihara, who has TW737Vs in his pack.

Three models make up the Tour World 737 range, and each model has slight differences in head shape and loft. These are specifically made to meet the needs of forged iron users. Honma’s unifying face progression design and center of gravity allows each model to have slight variations in sole width, face thickness and head size depending on loft. The offset remains the same. While the design itself is impressive, it’s also very easy to add a Tour World combo.

The entire TW737 iron line is forged from S25C steel using Honma’s proprietary high strength W-Forging , a two-stage forging process that mixes hot and cold forging. According to Honma, this process increases the density of the club faces, particularly high up. This extra strength can be said to improve ball speed and forgiveness.

The TW737 Vn is specifically designed for the better golfer who loves the feel and ease of using a knife, but wants a bit more forgiveness.

TW737 -V comes with a small cavity back head that gives the pilot a lot more control and distance than the Vn.

Looks

The PING-i Irons may look similar to the i25’s from a glance. However, there are subtle and important differences. These irons all share the following key characteristics: a relatively minimal offset, modest top and sole lines, average blade length, and moderately short blades.

The i irons, however have numerous upgrades that give them a cleaner, more modern appearance. First, the CTP (custom tuning port) is almost entirely hidden. Also, the CTP (custom tuning port) has almost been hidden. Also, the toes of the irons have been sharpened which makes the iirons look a little smaller from heel-toe. It’s important to note that the offset of the i25 irons is slightly lower than those of the i25. The difference is small – the biggest change is .03” – but any reduction in offset is sure to please the traditionalists.

G425’s range includes crossovers, drivers and irons. It was immediately put to the test and we were impressed with the performance of the driver.

In the video below, Golf. Alex Lodge (Magic’s equipment guru) takes the G425 irons with him to Grays golf in Lewes. There are other venues across the South East of England as well to test if they can be used to improve your game. Made Callaway. CLICK HERE TO READ OUR REVIEW ON THE PING G425 IONS.
