Our recent visit to Ping Headquarters has been like the gift that keeps giving.

Aside from our behind-the scenes access of the very impressive – and HUGE – Ping campus, Dave Pauley and I were fortunate to test some of the goods ourselves, which was chronicled starting with my review on the new Ping i200 irons.

Marty Jertson is our Senior Design Engineer. However, while we were there we decided to stay on-site and review the Ping Glide2.0 wedges. The new Ping Glide 2.0 has been a great success among Ping Tour ambassadors.

Jertson explains how the Ping Glide2.0 wedges are a lot better than the original Glide series. He cites the importance of the additional grooves as well as the “sharper tolerances” that allow for more spin.

The Glide 2.0 wedges have enhanced spin properties that I personally can attest to, particularly on delicate and small half shots, which many golfers shy away from. It felt like these clubs provided “crisper” shots at those distances as Jertson eludes, which did in fact fly lower and check more.

Glide 2.0 also features refinement in each of its four sole grinds, SS, WS. ES. TS. This provides a great interaction through the turf. Of course, this is what you would expect, hence “Glide.” There are some truths to that inference, since almost all shots I hit felt effortless in terms of how they feel through the grass.

Ping Glide 2.0 wedges have my bottom line. I love the unique feel these clubs give to Ping.

If anything, the Glide 2.0 wedges look a bit more refined with a smarter finish.

Ping Glide 2.0 wedges review – The technology

Ping isn’t interested in doing new things just to be new. They are serious about engineering, and they always strive for improvement.

It was a question that tour players had to answer. The result? More spin.

Ping changed the grooves on Glide 2.0 wedges so that spin rates could be increased by 350 rpm for full shots, and 200 rpm for shots around the green.

Increased groove volume with steeper sidewalls will give you better results on full shots. It also maximizes spin on chips.
