Ping claims that the G400 Hybrid has the greatest improvement. It features a maraging steel face which Ping says gives it instant ball speed. Ping say that new center of gravity weights also will help golfers launch the ball higher with their latest hybrid, achieving a higher peak trajectory and steeper landing angles.

G400 hybrid comes with progressive CG positions that can be used to help golfers accurately gap their sets. Golfers will find the 2- and 3 Hybrids more toe-side to minimize left bias. While the 6-, 5-, and 6 Hybrids help them launch their ball higher and with greater forgiveness,

The matt black finish makes it a great all-round option. It allows the crown turbulators to fade into the background, creating an unobtrusive head design. This head shape, which is mid-wide in width, allows for easy flight from the turf and digging shots out the rough. It can also be used to scuttling out of fairway bunkers with low lipped fairways.

Ping G400 hybrid Detailed Review

Sometimes when there’s not a lot wrong, it doesn’t leave much scope to make things a lot more right. Ping was faced with this challenge after launching their new G400, a continuation of their G hybrid success.

If you’ve had the privilege of reading our review of the fairway woods, you’ll have picked up on our musings that the G400 was more of a consolidator (is that a word?) This was not a game changing device.

It was a great foundation. But qualified praise nevertheless.

So, what of the hybrid equivalent? Could the G400 raise the bar, and put Ping firmly on the map of the elite hybrids? You can see the fruit of our labor below.

Ping G400 Expert review

After having tried the G30 and G30 major lineups of Ping, I was very eager to test the 2017 Ping G400 series. The G400 lineup consists of 3 driver options (standard, SFT and LST), fairway metals, hybrids, crossovers and irons. Ping grips have never been made proprietary to the G400 line. That is one thing I like about it. Ping clubs have had their own grip design since the very beginning of my knowledge. This is a refreshing change, as Tour Velvet grips are what I used.

Look out for reviews on the horizon, and please comment below.

Ping G400 445cc driver shaft: Alta CB59-Gram Flex: Stiff Loft: 9deg Ping has packed quite a bit of technology into its G400 driver. But the biggest change to the car is the larger club head. While the max allowable size is 460cc, Ping chose to make the G400 driver 445cc. This driver features a new shape, multi-material construction and forged faces. It has also a tungsten backweight. This combination reduces drag, promotes forgiveness, increases club speeds, and encourages longer distances.

You are probably thinking that all drivers manufacturers use similar claims when releasing new models. But Ping took it one step further and actually proved their claims. Their Forged Face, which is thinner and lighter than its G series counterpart, increases ball speeds by two mph. A higher MOI is due to the increased weight of the high-density, tungsten rear. It produces the longest rear CG and the most forgiving head.

Ping G400 drivers are a great choice for all players. You have 3 options. The low handicap driver will pass quickly, the high handicap drivers will not notice any difference after they choose the correct one.

My experience with smaller cars than 460cc has been extensive over the years. So at 445cc I was able to pass my eye exam on the Ping G400. The larger footprint of many modern drivers was replaced by a more traditional head shape and deeper face than past Ping offerings. A smaller head can sometimes make clubs feel shorter, but Ping did this right.

The G400 has a clean, simple and rich colorway. Matte black stands out like ever and stops the eyes being distracted from the large crown design. Ping has reworked driver’s acoustics and created a Tour-inspired, deeper sound.
