The G20 is nothing new, letter for letter. According to PING the G20 includes:

The Aerodynamic 460cc Head with Larger Face to Create Forgiveness and Power across All Hitting Surfaces

External weight for high launch and low spin.

It’s fairly standard language for a new driver, and under other circumstances I might have fallen asleep reading it, but, PING has an outstanding track record of actually improving the performance of their drivers with each new release. You don’t need to be a PING driver to enjoy the paint and tinkering-toy adjustment. The aim is to help average golfers play better.

Our Test Methods The 6 players for which we have detailed performance data were asked hit a series shots with our 3Track Equipped simulators. Golf As usual, testing was done at Tark’s Indoor Golf , a state of the art indoor golf facility located in Saratoga Springs, NY. This interactive review includes detailed data about each shot. This data serves as the foundation for our final performance score. An additional 6 golfers had the opportunity to experience the PING G20 driver and provided feedback. We also gathered this information from the performance testers and used it to create our overall subjective score. Tests were done with a 10.5deg driver in stiff, regular and x flex.

Conclusion

No, our testers don’t have to be idiots. These testers are passionate golfers and get excited about testing a lot of our equipment. They sometimes get it wrong. Whatever the reason, PING G20 did not get the guys excited (although they might have rethought their positions after reviewing their figures). Each of us uses his own weighting scale to determine what’s really important to us as golfers. Many people will freely admit they place distance ahead of all other things (not even common sense). The smartest guys place the premium on accuracy, while still others get so wrapped up in labels and paint schemes they forget about getting as far up the fairway as they possibly can. What does the driver appear like from the trees?

It is a score system I have to adhere to. But if you want the honest opinion of a guy who has tested every driver to come through the doors at My. Golf. Spy over the last 2 seasons; even if it doesn’t have some of the intangible lure of some of the others, the PING G20 is absolutely one of the top 3 drivers we’ve ever tested.

One man’s opinion – this score should have been much higher!

R flex TFC 169D shaft Ping ID8 grip Distance and accuracy are optimized by an external weight that optimizes the center of gravity position to generate high launch and low spin. G20’s variable-thickness face produces faster ball speeds, and an increase in MOI to allow for maximum forgiveness. The G20’s 460cc clubhead was made of. Ti 8-1-1 (a lighter alloy with a lower density) is the best. High strength-to weight ratios of Ti-8-1-1 allow for extra weight to be strategically placed. This can help increase MOIs on both horizontal and vertical axes. The crown and body have different wall thicknesses, which can help to save weight and maximize performance.

The Pros include a stylish club head with great looks that can be positioned at the address. They also come in muted gray colors with confidence-inspiring head sizes that offer a large foot print and a low spin. All this at a reasonable cost for a club that’s new on the market.

Pros: Ping’s drivers and woods are still not adjustable. This is a problem if your goal is to have a high-performing club. The average golfer will need a driver that is 45.75 inches in length.

Bottom line: The driver is solid and will be appealing to all players.

Below is a summary of the Ping g20 Driving Features:

The g20 grey color is unobtrusive and has minimal design elements. The g20 is a gray color with no frills. Boring would be another.

Fair enough, the design of this club isn’t its selling point. With a TFC 169D Graphite Shaft and 560cc head, this club is sleek but rather uninspired.

The look of the club is an integral part of golf. If this is so, you might want to skip the g20. If looks are not important, the only thing that really matters is the function of the club.

Due to Ti 8-1-1’s low-density alloy, the club head is strong and light. High launch and low spin are possible thanks to the variable wall thickness of both the crown and the face. High balance points shafts on the g20 allow you to swing heavy weights quickly.

Attention golf ball! You will see the clubface and your shots fly along the fairway. This is due to the external weight found in the heel. This will allow the ball to fly high and quickly.

You can swing freely, but this club is forgiving. There’s a minimal loss on off-center hits, so you’ll likely see consistent distance gains.

Review: Pilot Ping G20

Bubba Watson Ping staff player Bubba Watson was known for his great length from the tee. He is consistently at the top in driving distance tournament after tourney. He is amazing at driving his Ping driver. Even amateur golfers wish they could get the ball so far. Ping G20’s driver will get you there “Bubba”. It is a simple driver, but it’s exciting. It’s not about building fancy cars, but rather enhancing the drivers’ internal design. This makes them easier to handle and more powerful than their older models. The G20 is no different. The G20 is shorter and more straight-cut than the previous Ping drivers.

Ping has the most customizable process of all golf companies. I have praised it in all my Ping reviews and will continue to do so. If golfers want to get better and have the best equipment; it needs to be fit for them. Sometimes, you may just be looking for a brand new club. You will see the Ping G20 in most shops with the standard shaft. The Ping TFC169D tour or the standard loft. The tour is lower launch and less torque. This is the most common setup. The D3 swingweight, 45.75″, is topped off with the Pings Id8 grip.

Stock shafts were never my favorite because they’re often too expensive and inconsistent. They also don’t fit well with my swing. I wasn’t sure I would be able to play a G20 with a rack driver. But, then again, considering all the options Ping has for fitting my swing. The Ping G20 has been a great shaft. I don’t think any other shaft can give me better numbers and results. The driver can be used straight off the shelves. The shaft has mid-launch spin and a low spin. It feels crisp and smooth.

The head itself is a full 460cc with plenty of girth front to back and side to side. It has a relatively deep face and sits square. It has a charcoal colored crown with the Ping alignment aid.

On the course is where you get “Bubba” with it. The first drive I made was amazing. I hit an absolute bomb right down the middle of the fairway as straight as can be. It felt hot from the face, rose slowly to a mid/high lift and then just continued carrying until it dropped bounding down. The rest of rounds were a repetition of the original drive. It was a long and consistent drive. It was one of the longest drivers I’ve hit off the rack. I found it to be a great combination with my G20 3-wood (review here ) that I was able to reach a couple of par 5s I’ve never reached before in 2. For other players, it was very long. A high handicapper was my partner for one round. He just purchased the Ping G20 driver with similar specifications to mine. He was really struggling with all of his clubs except the driver. He was bombing it to the limit.

Ping changed a few things to make the G20 club “Bubba”. Ping’s G20 driver offers great sound and accuracy with no frills.
