To start, I must admit that I am not a good golfer. Heck, I don’t know if you could say I have even really been a good golfer. My best score was a 9. This was when I was playing a lot, practicing and playing three to four times per week. If you play as much as possible, it’s easy to regularly shoot round in the 80s with the occasional score of 78. I was probably more critical of myself and my abilities than I should have been, and found myself in clubs that were not the right fit for me. Due to my playing time, I could play in many different clubs.

Life events of recent times have altered things. A change in job has made it impossible to play the amount I had previously. My wife and I had our first child, so my free time has been reduced significantly. You can get frustrated when your golf game is getting so complicated that you don’t know how to fix it. Because of this I realized that I had to accept reality. I also decided to stop trying to play with clubs for people better than myself. Realizing that I will not be playing as often, I must ensure my bags are not causing me harm.

The opportunity to try out the PING G irons gave me the opportunity to evaluate their effectiveness. Read on to find out if the irons have lived up to their promise.

This review is based on a pair of 4-PW PING G Irons. They come with the standard AWT steel stiff shaft, and the middle-sized Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips. It seems like the shaft I received is one of the most flexible stiff shafts and it gives me the exact trajectory I want.

PING G irons now have technology built in that helps average golfer hit the ball better and get more distance. COREye, the company’s first technology, is its most prominent. For consistently higher balls speeds, this technology offers four-fold more face flexibility. The idea behind this technology is that any increase of ball speed and shot height leads to greater distance and steeper landing angles. This will allow the ball to stay on the green regardless of how long your irons are.

Ping G Irons Review: What’s the Bottom Line?

Ping’s Ping G iron is an excellent choice. Ping G Irons are able to blend the style of a player’s iron and a game chassis. We think they do it well. Ping also sells them separately so that you don’t have to buy multiple irons.

Ping G Series Irons Review

PING is on a roll in simplifying and organizing their lines. The G-Series continues that trend. Much like the i-Series the numerical identifier is now gone and what we are left with are the new “G” Irons from PING. THP was able to get a set in hand for review (4-PW, AWT 2.0 shafts) and it’s safe to say that though they are very much G-Series irons that we have come to know, there is definitely still new performance tech being brought to the table.

The new G Irons are now PING

G irons are heat treated using a specialized process, creating a Hyper 17-4 alloy that is 40% stronger than traditional 17-4 SS. These allow the faces to become thinner while providing four times greater face flexing and better stability. These results result in large distance increases and higher peak trajectory which allows for greater stopping power, so it is possible to hit and hold green.

COR Eye Technology allows you to achieve large distances by activating your sole, face, top rail in Flexing. You will experience consistent ball speed across the hotter skin. The G head offers four times as much face flexing and more stability.

A deeper CG is created by connecting the Custom Tuning Port and the sole. It increases launch angle, while also increasing the MOI to improve accuracy.

An iron’s sophisticated appearance at address can be achieved with a thin toprail, satin-blast finishing and the appropriate offset. COR Eye Technology is used with the cavity to create a multi-material damping plaque that can be joined to increase sound and feel.

PING’s proprietary AWT2.0 ascending weight technology shafts have a positive effect on the G irons. They are a great combination of physics with feel. As they move from short irons into long irons, the shafts become lighter. Lighter long-iron shafts help square the clubface to increase clubhead speed for distance and accuracy. Short iron/wedge shafts are heavier for improved trajectory control and feel.

Review: Ping G Irons

Game Enjoyment Irons We differentiate irons into categories like, blades, player’s irons, game-improvement irons, and super game improvement irons. Ping G irons fall under the category of game-improvement irons. However, don’t let this name prevent you from using these irons. While we sometimes struggle to accept our mistakes and want to continue playing blades, sometimes it is better to enjoy the game by taking great shots after great shots. Thee Ping G-irons are better than just game-improvement irons, they are Game-Enjoyment irons.

Ping G series Irons lost the numbers, and went G. These irons are smaller, more compact and less off-set, but they still offer all the benefits of ease and forgiveness. The first thing that pops is how they look. The best-looking G iron Ping’s ever produced. This combination of chrome and Satin looks amazing.

as a 4UW Stock Set with DG S300 shafts. Interesting that these have a standard lie angle of a yellow dot. I’ve been a huge fan of the Ping fitting system over the years, but the lie colors seem to be changing. I’ve used standard Ping sets in black, blue and dots before so getting these in stock yellow was not a surprise. Check to make sure the irons are still compatible with your previous Ping sets. Their stock lie angle remains a perfect fit for my swing, despite the fact that they may be different in color. Also, they were delivered to me at D2 in order that I could choose the swing weight. All these are things to consider when purchasing a Ping set. This is a great way to save money and it takes a little more time to be properly fit.

It is what I refer to as “game-enjoyment”. You can hit them quickly, easily and high. The G-irons provide all those game improvement qualities, in a stylish package. COREye, which is an innovative variable face thickness technology used in irons, was a major reason I got high quality shots using the Girons. It has been in drivers and woods for years, but bringing it to irons does the same thing, creates a hotter face across a bigger area of the club. The sweet spot in the middle is generally larger and can be used by everyone.

What I appreciated most is the thinner sole. When the soles of my game-improvement golf irons grow too thick, it’s always been a problem. The result is that I struggle to hit the club well. While it may be contrary to traditional thinking, the superior sole design allowed me more face forgiveness through better turf interaction.

They are more precise and versatile than regular irons. They aren’t just jacked up for distance, they are made for consistency and accuracy. They were very accurate on pured shots and mis-hits. They have less spin than some of the irons that I use, but they still make good pured shots and mis-hits.

Ping ions also continue to evolve in terms of feel. It was one of their earlier sets that I had reviewed. They could feel harsh, especially when mis-hitting, and they use the cavity plate as well as the tuning bars to lower vibration and enhance the feeling across the entire face. Pured hits feel better as to off-center ones. The pured hits aren’t dead, even though you can feel it hitting off-center. However, the design ensures that there is no loss of ball speed and accuracy.

It’s important to know

Golf. Magic.com. PING was the best in Magic last year. PING’s product line was extremely well-received by consumers and is still very popular. But here’s the issue: How can you improve such a remarkable product? Would PING be a victim of its own success this upcoming year?

Centurion club was able to look over the brand new G iron game-improvement, and we saw for ourselves why 2016 looks like another record-breaking PING season.

The first thing you will notice about the G irons is they look different from past game improvement models from PING.

In fact, aesthetically they are likened more to PING i than G Max, which is to say they look more player iron than super game improvement iron.

They have a relatively thin top line, which is matched by a medium-sized sole. Concealed Custom Tuning Port is the weight located in the back club. It hides from the eye, giving the iron an elegant look.

Sat behind the ball, the irons look fantastic, through 4-iron to the wedges. There is an overall clean, modern feel to the aesthetic which will appeal to the masses, and those who have been put off by the look of past PING game-improvement irons.

They are perfect! We could not resist hitting balls with these irons despite the freezing weather.
