Ping Glide Forged Pro Wedge Review The best wedge that Ping have ever made?

Ping’s Glide 3.0 SS Wedges are made with sharp, deep grooves that provide higher spin. They also have a lighter system weight which allows for better control and feel. These wedges are proven on tour to deliver shot-saving performance at multiple lofts and sole grind choices. Shots will have a greater MIO head for increased accuracy. Also, the wedges will include an elastomer insert to provide soft impact.

Ping totally overhauled the previous Glide wedges. The new Glide3.0 versions spin better, have softer feel, and are easier to forgive than any other. They feature milled grooves with razor-sharp edges. They have larger Custom Tuning Port (CTP) inserts in the heads that provide the softness. The back cavities are responsible for providing extra spin and a Tour-like trajectory. Glide 3.0 has many head options to suit different players. But, Ping’s Eye2 shape remains the most nostalgic.

Golfalot reviewed the Glide Forged Pro back in 2018. The Ping Glide Forged Pro has a compacter, more precise version.

Glide Forged Pro has the same 8620 carbon steel body as previous models, but is smaller from heel to tip. This gives it a more captured look which encourages head manipulation.

Fully machined wheel-cut grooves with wider first groove are now more angled to allow shots that have been struck further from the face to still work well.

The club’s surface has a more tactile finish called the “emery” face blast. This creates more friction which results in more spin every time you take a shot. The hydropearl 2.0chrome finish ensures consistent performance, regardless of whether you are hitting off the fairway.

There are two stock grinds for the wedges. One is the traditional S, which appeals to golfers with a traditional shape sole, while one is the T, which has a shorter sole that gives more bounce.

Ping provides eight custom grinds and the brand has also launched an Eye2 Toe59deg. This shape is inspired by Karsten Sollheim’s 1980 high toe design.

The wedges seem to have a higher quality than the previous Ping models. This being said, the PS199 price tag is PS40 higher than other wedge giants like Taylor, Callaway Jaws, and Vokey. You can also make your own grind, such as Made Milled Grind.

To be honest I struggled to see where this extra PS40 is spent, and if anything it meant that I was expecting these wedges to be much better than their rivals’ so I was probably even more judgemental than usual during this review.

I normally don’t care about the price of things, but this time I have to. It is so high that I can not see how they can charge it so much more than any other wedge on the market.

This wedge should be enough to make Ping reconsider their price tag when it comes time for specialised wedges. Ping wedges could only be used by people who play with irons. The new Glide Forged Pros will make you feel like a better player if the cost isn’t an issue.

What Are Their Goals?

This is due to the small head shape, which is also smaller than the Glide Forged before it, making them more appropriate for higher level players.

This doesn’t necessarily mean other golfers can’t make use of them. However, I do recommend fitting a Ping Ping wedge in grass as well as in bunkers.
