The story behind the Ping G10 Driver is one of evolution not revolution. High MOI designs have been studied by technicians for hours. High moi clubs are not always associated with straighter drives, according to their findings. The fact remains that side spin can’t be reduced if the club faces are either open or closed, no matter how high they may be. Moi say the company “was a consideration when designing the new driver, but not to the extent of ignoring other crucial elements which make up our complete performance driver.” So by concentrating on whats important to golfers the company reckon they’ve developed a great sounding, cosmetically pleasing driver which delivers maximum distance and tons of forgiveness. If your wondering how it differs to the Ping G5, well its body is slightly wider, the face height is slightly taller which ultimately means the clubs centre of gravity is located a little lower and deeper meaning more forgiveness over Pings previous great drivers. By increasing moi, drives that are hit from the G5’s driver will not lose as much speed. This means miss hits can go farther.

Ping tour players found that the Ping G10 was five yards faster than their current driver when it comes to distance. Comparing the G10 with Ping G5 has shown a 4-yard improvement in carry distance and an increase of 2 mph in ball speed. Ping Man, the robotic golfer known affectionately as Ping Man, was able to carry five more yards while delivering a lower spin rate with a higher launch angle. Which we agree all adds up to the G10 being a worthwhile addition.

Although the G10 is not as fun and flashy as the other tests, it may be more entertaining. There is nothing you can adjust! You may not even need to alter your driver’s settings if one of these is available.

I was tired of being the same driver for 6 years and decided that it was time to move on to a different club. I went to my local pro, who gave me a high-tech fitting using the Vector Pro Launch System.

He wanted me to take six shots with him, the driver who was a Taylor. Made Firesole, which had a 10deg loft with a regular graphite shaft. Here you can see my average yardage as well the club head speed, ballspeed, and ball speed. A graph showing each shot’s trajectory, information about spin, and launch angles on impact, is also available.

Even though I am able to hit it at a good distance, I can still get 20 yards farther with a modern driver. I was also advised to use a stiff shaft because of the high spin that I was creating on the ball.

I tried a few different drivers before the Ping G10 was put in my hands. Pro suggested I should generate a greater launch angle, and he gave me the driver with 12deg. This improvement was immediately apparent.

Club has a 460cc Titan head. “A new thin crown pattern provides discretionary weigh which is repositioned within the head to optimize CGT location for higher launch for lower spin.” The driver has improved my game tremendously over the past five months. The club is unbelievably forgiving. I’m hitting it farther and the club is running straight down my middle. I couldn’t be happier with the improvement and have found I don’t get so nervous on the first tee with a watching crowd!
