Ping G Sf Tec Driver Review

Ping is also releasing a Straight Flight, or SF, version of the G Driver. The sole weight is slightly heavier towards the heel to give the driver a draw bias and straighten out fades.

It is two pounds lighter than standard to help club turnover.

Visually, it looked the same as the SF. This creates the draw effect, without offset or using any other technique visible at address to either you or others.

Compared to the standard version on Trackman, it actually went a little further, possibly due to the 10deg loft being slightly stronger than the 10.5deg.

For me it proved to be much better, with more shots being distributed in the centre of the fairway to the left than the right. Ping states that it provides approximately 12 yards of left correction for your shots. This is consistent with my own experience.

When reviewing the G30 driver, my opinion was that the SF TEC was better because it was more easy to hit. This is not the place for high handicappers, or those who are slashers. The fitting is free for anyone, no matter their skill level. Put it in the bag!

Following the extremely popular G30 driver PING looked to design even more aerodynamics into their latest release, the PING G driver, I took it for a test drive to see how it performs.

This is a great way to share this information with your golf friends:

Nature often inspires great design. Nature often has the best solutions to problems. PING engineers went to nature to find the perfect solution to the G30’s problems. PING G engineer engineers looked to nature in order to help improve and inspire their designs.

Turbulators were an important feature in the G30. The features the PING engineers gleamed from the dragonfly were geared to further improve the airflow of the clubhead. Speed to hit it further. Aerodynamics are not sacrificed by larger clubsheads, especially those that measure 460cc. PING set out in order to create a driver that had all the characteristics of a 3-wood driver but also the forgiving and powerful nature of a driver.

For this review I was give a 9deg PING G driver with an stiff Alta shaft. Let’s dive in to see if this merger of nature and technology helped me hit it any farther. Technology When PING announced the G30 last year I am forced to admit that I was very suspicious that the “Turbulators” were going to last very long. But it is impossible to deny how extremely popular the G30 was and still is. Nearly half of my guys have one. PING engineers continued to improve the Turbulator technology, introducing the “Dragonfly tech” to their clubhead. The new design is inspired by dragonfly wings and increases speed due to the lower drag. The improvement in distance can be seen at all swing speeds.

Dragonfly technology allows the engineer to change the weight of their vehicle. The ability for a club to move its weight can make it possible to alter the way the Center of Gravity is distributed. In this case the CG is in a better position (low/back) to provide higher launch and lower spin and to add more forgiveness for the golfer. The G driver has the lowest and deepest CG of any driver that PING has produced. The driver’s MOI is significantly higher on the two axes, allowing for maximum forgiveness.

Combining this design with PING Vortec Velocity technology, it makes the whole package. Vortec Velocity helps reduce the turbulent wake from the downswing and increase clubhead and ball speeds. To help you forgive, it also increases stability. The Vortec Technology is another addition to the G versus the G30 driver.

Review: Ping’S Lst Drivers, G400 and F400

Ping’s G30 drivers were my first experience. I vividly remember it. It was July 2014, and I was at Ping’s HQ in Phoenix. At the time, super low spin drivers were a fad. With their forward center of gravity, they were helping golfers optimize their launch conditions beyond their wildest dreams: crazy high launch, ridiculously low spin. I, along with many other business people, was one such driver. Many launch monitor sessions were spent trying to determine how to maximize distance and get higher knuckleball speeds. However, the bad news is that forward-CG driver were very intolerant by nature. Bad shots can be really bad and they are often very short.

Marty Jertson, Ping Director of Product Development, shared with me his vision on the perfect driver in an office at PingHQ. The ideal driver did not have a low forward center of gravity. According to him, the CG should be as low as possible and at the rear of your head. This would give you the best of both: optimal launch conditions for good shots and the greatest forgiveness possible on poor shots.

It was not an easy task to create the ideal driver. But Jertson was delighted with Ping’s G30. He was proud of his vision and the driver saw it as a testament to that. The G30’s rear-CG design allowed for great distance in both good and poor shots. It was also very straight. G30s sold extremely well, and as a result the majority of forward-CG drivers were replaced.

It’s been nearly three years since the release of the G30, and Ping has just made another counterintuitive driver release. In a world where larger drivers are the norm, Ping has reduced the G400 driver’s size. Granted, it’s only 15 cubic centimeters smaller, but it’s noticeable at address. Compared to the Ping G drivers they replace (which replaced the G30), the G400’s look like they cut carbs.

The G400 drivers, despite their smaller frames, are more patient than the G30 drivers. Ping representative say that the G400 drivers are smaller than their G30 counterparts. The drivers have the lowest, most rearward CG of any Ping drivers ever, and their smaller size is said to improve their aerodynamics so golfers can swing them fractionally faster. Other big changes include a thinner, more flexible face material of T9S+ titan that helps golfers increase ball speed.

The G400 LST was my choice, but I also wanted to see how they compare to the G LST drivers. To do this, I drove them to Launch Pad Carl’s Golfland near Bloomfield Hills. Trackman IV provided five shots for each driver. In order to make the comparison fair and accurate, I used the same shaft on each driver head. Every driver’s head was set to the exact same loft or close.

Note: The G, G LST, and G400 drivers I tested were 10.5-degree heads adjusted to 9.5 degrees. G400 LST had 10 degree loft, which was increased to 9.4 degrees.
