Ten Best Cannabis Soils (2021)

There are 160 million cannabis users worldwide. This is a huge number and it has amazing therapeutic and medicinal properties. There are many opinions on how to grow Cannabis indoors and outdoors. Hydroponics is more popular than soil. But soil allows for the production of delicious, high quality buds.

Picking the right soil when growing Cannabis is very important as it is one of the deciding factors of the health of your plants. This depends on many factors, including the climate and the type of cannabis you grow.

It usually takes two to six months for your plants to reach maturity. Your plants also require many nutrients throughout that time. This complexity is what makes the cannabis-specific soil market a successful one.

These soils have been specifically designed to help marijuana plants grow well. Pre-made potting mixtures usually include all the necessary nutrients, vitamins and microorganisms to allow these plants to grow naturally and optimally.

There are many cannabis-specific soils out there. It can seem overwhelming. We have narrowed down the options to make it easier for you. We have something to suit everyone’s needs, no matter whether you want universal, organic or pre-fertilized soils.

It’s called dirt, soil or growth medium, but it is an integral part of any cannabis cultivation operation. The best cannabis soil is the key to growing pot plants.

This is so crucial that it could make the difference between success and failure. Which would you rather have: bountiful buds or a plant so unhealthy you can’t even compost it next year? You can make this happen if you have the right soil. There are many factors that can affect your decision.

How do you choose the right soil? Which pH is the most optimal? How would you grow your plants outdoors? What happens if you are growing indoors instead? You could ask a million more questions. Fear not, friend. Honest Marijuana has the experts to assist!

Since almost a decade, we have been cultivating some of the best cannabis around the globe. Our cannabis is grown in organic 100-percent soil. We don’t use any chemicals or pesticides.

In those 20 years, we have learned much. We want to be able to help you. To do that, we’ve put together the definitive guide to the best soils for cannabis so you don’t have to worry about your head exploding while trying to sift through all the information. Let’s get started on our adventure in dirt by looking at the basic elements of good cannabis soil.

Basics Of Good Cannabis Soil Cannabis, also known as weed, can flourish under different conditions. But that doesn’t mean you should just scatter your sensimilla seeds in the backyard and hope for the best. This is not Jack & The Beanstalk.

While cannabis marijuana can thrive in any soil, the best soil for growing cannabis is one that has just the right amount of variables. You need to consider:

Proper drainage

Water retention. This may seem counterintuitive, but it is not.

Use the correct nitrogen/phosphorus ratio (this happens in the composting phase).

Best Soil For Indoor Cannabis

Indoor cannabis plants thrive in organic super soil, 420 fertilizer and mix. This article will teach you how these indispensable ingredients can be made.

You can make organic super soil to give your cannabis plants the perfect balance of nutrients. The 420 fertilizer can be made by you and will result in tall cannabis plants that produce lots of marijuana and cannabinoids.

It is possible to buy soil instead of making your own. This is particularly good for those who don’t have a lot of space outside to set up a compost pile. We’ll talk about the best bagged soils in the next three sections.

Best Potting Soil For Cannabis If you must buy a bagged soil and your local garden store doesn’t have a lot of choices, anything with the words “organic potting soil” or “organic potting mix” will work. You won’t find the perfect soil, but this is what you will need.

One of the organic soils mentioned in the next section is your best option. The homemade super soil, which we will discuss later in this article, may also be a good choice.

You should make sure that your potting soil does not have slow-release chemical nutrients. This could lead to your marijuana plant getting the wrong nutrients. These chemicals could cause serious damage to your cannabis crop.

If your garden store has more of a variety, look for one of the following brands.

Autoflowering Cannabis: What is the Best Soil?

It is the amount of sunlight a plant receives during the day that determines whether it flowers. These plants are also known as photoperiod. For cannabis to grow outdoors, it needs between 12-15 hours of daylight per day. It usually does not happen until the end of summer.

Of course, that variable can be controlled by growing your cannabis indoors (where the plant needs closer to 18 hours of fluorescent light).

Autoflowering can be achieved by some cannabis plants. This means that the plants don’t depend on how much light they receive to initiate their flowering stages. Autoflowering cannabis plants instead will enter the flowering phase when they reach a specific stage of their development.

An autoflowering cannabis plant prefers light soil that is airy and low in nutrients. Some of the soils, mixes and other conditions mentioned earlier are not ideal. It doesn’t mean that “normal” soil can’t be used. The difference is that lighter soils will yield better results.

Use the following recipe to mix your autoflowering ground:

3 Parts Compost

3 pieces peatmoss

2 parts perlite

1 part wet vermiculite

For those of you using regular, photoperiod marijuana seeds, the next two sections will be your definitive guide to making the best soil for cannabis.

Best Marijuana Soils

The importance of soil considerations

No matter what medium you choose, there are a few things you need to consider before purchasing marijuana-growing soil.

Drainage: Purchase soil that has good drainage because plants will not do well if the roots get soggy. Coco coir and most other potting soils are capable of doing this. Even the most potent soil will become soggy over time if it is not watered enough.

Cannabis roots are not happy to be stretched too hard. You shouldn’t allow soil to become too compacted. This will prevent your marijuana plants from growing well. Your finger must be able and easily to push your finger down into the soil. To quickly test soil density, you can lift soil bags of equal size from several suppliers. The soil that feels heavier is likely to be denser.

pH Level: Cannabis enjoys soil that is slightly acidic. However, since most nutrients will tend to lower the pH level, this is generally not a problem, depending on the pH level of the water you are using. It is okay to use this method if you plan on buying coco coir and potting soil. A soil pH meter might prove useful if you plan to mix your organic soil yourself. Different mediums have different pH levels. For example, coco coir is between 5.2-6.8. Mediums that fall within these ranges are considered to be relatively neutral.

Which Soil Is Best for Cannabis Plants?

The environment and climate are key factors in choosing the right soil to grow cannabis. Poor drainage is not ideal for indoor plants. However, this could prove to be an excellent choice for cannabis that is grown in dry or arid environments where water retention can be a problem.

We’ll look more closely at the best soils for indoor vs. outdoor cannabis plants in the next sections. The other important thing to take into consideration when selecting the best soils, is whether you want to grow autoflowering or photoperiod plants. This genetic difference affects the development of flowers.

Photosynthetic plants can’t grow flowers until the lighting cycle has changed. What indoor cannabis growers do is dim their lights to simulate this. Autoflowers will “programmed”, meaning they’ll flower quicker. While photoperiod flowers take longer to flower, they produce higher yields than autoflowers.

Autoflowers won’t need to be subjected to seasonal fluctuations, so they are a great option for beginners who want to grow cannabis. Autoflowers enjoy a light soil mix that drains easily and doesn’t have too many nutrients. Autoflowers may be overwhelmed by fertilized soils.

Autoflowers need what kind of soil?

For autoflowering plants, compost and peat moss can play a vital role. However, perlite is able to increase water retention and drainage and maximize yields.

How do I choose the best soil to grow marijuana indoors?

Sandy soils however are very easy to grow in and allow for great drainage. Sandy soil is a great option for indoor growers. Silty soils contain fine-ground organic minerals and particles like quartz. Silty soils can retain moisture but they also have good drainage.

What Soil Is Best For Clones?

You should use new soil that has a high pH and nitrogen level. Soil should contain high nitrogen levels for clones, as opposed to soil with high phosphorus levels for flowering plants. For best results, ensure that the pH level of any soil is at least 6.
