Best Leaf Blowers

The Best Cordless Blower

We were impressed by the Ego’s almost 30-minute run-time. It has easy-to-use controls, a lot of power, and a precise airstream but it’s a little heavier than our corded picks and a lot more expensive.

Amazon, $299 Lowe’s. If your work requires you to reach beyond the reach of a 50 or 100 foot extension cord, the Ego LB6504 Battery-Powered Power+ 650 CFM Blower is the right choice. While it offers a similar run time to the Ego LB5804 (on high), its 27 minute duration is more impressive than that of the Ego LB6504 Power+ 650 CFM Blower. But, the Ego LB6504 is slower. The Ego LB5604 doesn’t have the raw leaf-blasting power of the corded models, but in our tests its more focused airstream was better at getting under a dense mat of wet leaves, and its turbo button can produce an extra burst of power (but drains the battery faster). However, the negatives include weight and high cost. It weighs around 10 lbs, which is nearly twice the weight of the Toro and Worx. And at an average price around $300, the Ego cordless handheld is much more expensive than the others we examined. For the money, however, you’re getting the absolute best combination of power, portability, and ease of use, and it’s an especially smart investment if you plan to expand your collection of Ego’s great system of lawn tools, including lawn mowers string trimmers . This is an upgrade to the Ego LB5804 Energy+ 580 CFM Blawer, which we previously recommended.

With good ergonomics

Although the Ryobi cordless Ryobi can’t match its Ego LB6504 in terms run time or power, it’s still quieter than most and comes with an adjustable handle that allows for more ergonomics.

Home Depot $199*

Ryobi 40470VNM 550 CFM Brushless Fan Blower is a great choice if you’re looking for a cordless blower, but are unable to afford the Ego LB6504. The Ego’s run time and power are shorter, but the Ryobi is still a reliable leaf-mover in normal dry conditions. There are two major points: it’s extremely quiet even for a cordless blower. Additionally, the adjustable handle provides great ergonomics with minimal wrist strain. The controls aren’t as polished (there’s no lock-on switch), and its run time isn’t as long as the Ego (but at almost 20 minutes, it’s still better than most). The Ryobi cordless blower costs around $200 in single-battery configuration at the time we tested it. We think that this is a good value for money compared to the other options. Ryobi’s system of lawn tools is solid but not as polished as Ego’s and this tool’s battery doesn’t work on Ryobi’s drills or other power tools.

Lightweight, long run time

The Worx WG584 Cordless Worx is not as strong as other cordless options. However, it’s light and long-lasting.

$183* from Amazon $197 from Lowe’s

*At the time of publishing, the price was $210.

How to Choose The Best Leaf Blower: Electric vs Gas

When weighing electric vs gas, speed, convenience and budget are all important factors.

Handheld gas and battery blowers make light work of leaves. The best corded-electric blowers are powerful enough for many big jobs, though you’ll have to stay within 100 feet of a power outlet. Most outdoor extension cords are at this length. Gas handheld leaf blowers go anywhere, but they weigh and cost more than corded electrics and they’re noisier. Additionally, they need fueling and regular maintenance. Although they offer the same power output as gasoline leaf blowers with cordless electrics (also known battery-powered leafblowers), their run times are shorter at 8 to 30 minutes.

The vacuum feature on some handheld blowers is useful for collecting yard debris and cleaning up stragglers. These vacuums are limited in their ability to vacuum a lot at once. Therefore, they work well for very small yards.

While backpack blowers can be more costly than handheld blowers due to their greater power and ability to transfer weight from your arms onto your shoulders and back, they are generally more affordable. While backpack blowers weigh in at 22 pounds and can seem lighter than 10-pound handheld blowers, the backpacks are still heavier than 10 lb. This type of backpack blower is best for larger lawns. You can choose from a gas-powered or battery-powered version. Batteries are relatively new to this field. However, in our tests the battery models performed better than gas when it came to power.

Got lots of leaves and a level property? The most powerful wheeled blowers are by far the best. Additionally, these blowers take up the greatest amount of storage space, can be hard to drive and control, as well as the highest cost. These are best for flat, large yards with a view of the woods. These plants are difficult to move on hills and can easily be blown into neighboring yards if there is a close proximity.

Seven Leaf Blowers to Buy This Fall 2021

Leaf blowers have many uses, and they are not limited to fall. Experts give their top tips for shopping for leaf blowers.

Most leaf blowers can be found in the following types: corded electric, gas-powered and handheld batteries-powered. Bogdanhoda / Getty Images Mili Godio Select is editorially independent. Fall foliage can be a joyous season for many, but it doesn’t mean that you want all of the fallen leaves littering your yard. Even though it might seem like a good idea, raking all the leaves and putting them in a big pile can make your yard look messy. Instead, many people rely on leaf blowers to tidy up their lawns and avoid overexerting themselves.

“A leaf blower is your best friend when it comes to quickly cleaning a space of fall foliage, dust and debris,” said David Steckel, home expert at Thumbtack . According to Steckel, a leaf blower can help clear your porch or walkways from accumulated leaves and dust. It also helps clean out garages after projects. You can use these gardening tools to remove grass clippings from your lawn, clean up dirt on driveways, sidewalks and other hard surfaces.

There are many leaf blowers on offer, and you need to consider how it will be used. We consulted landscaping and lawncare experts for their advice and tips.

Tips for leaf blower shoppers

This is the best backpack leaf blower

The blasters that are most effective in clearing the yard were tested.

One of the best tools to deal with the yearly onslaught of fallen foliage is the backpack leaf blower. You can’t carry a backpack blower around with you, but they are larger and more powerful. A backpack blower is a great option if you want to combine leaf-moving speed with convenience. Check out our reviews and findings as we test many backpack blowers in fall yard prep.

Things To Consider First, they crank out a lot of noise, both from the large engine (or motor) and the amount of air they move. The result is a lot faster than using a rake, a handheld leaf blower, or any other manual tool.

Backpack leaf blowers make leaf clearing less tiring because, aside from speeding up the process, they take the load off your arm and wrist. The blower tube can be dropped from the hand and moved to a different location. This allows you to stop blowing leaves more quickly. Contrary to this, larger machines can take up more storage space in your shed or garage.

You can clear leaves faster with more power. On the other hand, you must have a larger motor or engine and battery pack, as well as a fan to achieve that amount of power. You also need weight. The largest weight gainers reach 30 pounds. It all depends on how fit you are, your age and what interests you have. If you are able to move with more ease and power, a lighter blower might be a better choice. Also, a stronger blower produces more vibration than a smaller blower. Refusing to resist the recoil can make clearing leaves with a rake, or other tools as exhausting.

The next step is to think about the amount of machine that you’ll need, and how your work style will be affected by backpack blowers. Obviously, big jobs call for bigger and more expensive machines, but there’s no sense in getting a machine that’s overpowered relative to the job. You will be working solo, with others, or in a group of family and friends. Are you going to supplement your backpack with a hand-held blower, or perhaps a leafrake? A mower and bagger could be part of your arsenal for leaf-clearing. For most of us, a combination of methods will maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness. For the optimal purchase, use the data and experience from your past to determine which method is best.

What We tested We collected leaf blowers that were powered by large or gas engines. Gas models ranged in size from 32 to a massive 79.9cc beast, and battery-powered backpacks were suited for professional-duty to homeowner use. Then we went to work blowing leaves, sawdust, and yard debris.

For battery-powered devices, we used continuous power to measure the runtime. Accurately measuring the airspeed was not easy. It was difficult to accurately measure the speed of an aircraft. We bought an MGL Avionics Stratomaster Vega speed indicator (anemometer), powered it by a 12 volt DC source and constructed our own test device. The apparatus measured the speed from six inches away from the blower tube. The sound level was also recorded at 75 feet and the operator’s location. The sawdust erosion method was employed to visualise the amount of the blower’s air stream. Taped a section of pavement to cover it. We then used the sawdust erosion test to see how the wind shaped the area. Our other tests included timing the length of time we took to blow leaves out from a test rectangle. Also, for our biggest blowers, if they can skim a brick across pavement. It helps us understand how concentrated it is.

In addition to recording data, we looked at features such as the ergonomics of the handles, the visibility of the fuel in the gas tanks, and the comfort and adjustability of their shoulder straps. The eight top leaf blowers are listed below.

Best Leaf Blowers

Make sure you choose the correct type of leafblower.

All gas-powered leaf blower-vacs include everything needed to transform the machine into a mulching vacuum. They have durable metal impellers that are able to shred leaves as well as twigs. Power is measured in miles per hour or cubic feet per minutes (cfm). Cfm gives you a better idea of how hard the machine can work. Higher numbers mean more air. Both measurements are listed by manufacturers.

These electric blower-vacs require less maintenance than gas engines. With the help of this review, you can switch from blowing into vacuuming in a matter of seconds. The gas-powered models must be retuned for every conversion.

Cordless blowers are quieter than gas blowers and emit less smoke. Also, they are less powerful and can be used to sweep up leaves after mowing.

Gas backpack blowers have the power and reach-anywhere capability of gas but don’t require the strain that comes with using a handheld blower. You can use backpacks for hours without feeling any pain; hand-held blowers get sore after about 45 minutes.

For all blowers, decibel readings (dB), were obtained from 50ft away. Although this is quite close to neighbors’ homes, ear protection for any person who uses these machines should not be overlooked.
