HP Office. It is most likely that the Jet Pro 9015e will be the easiest printer to setup. It prints well (and fast), can scan great, and costs a very affordable 8.9C/per page for color or 2.2C/ per black page. HP Instant Ink allows you to print more photos for as little at 2.9C/ per page, glossies included. It looks great in any office, thanks to a clean, compact design, and it comes with a two-year warranty that’s twice as long as what you’d get with most competing printers. This replaces the Office. Jet Pro 9015, but it’s identical from a hardware perspective; the only differences are the longer warranty, the longer Instant Ink trial, and some added software features that are bundled into the new HP+ printing ecosystem. If you do not want to pay extra for HP+, you may be able find the old 9015 at a reduced price.

Consider these questions when deciding if an All-In-One is for you.

You need to print frequently, but not everyday. You need to print between 100 and 500 pages per month. You should consider the below inkjet-based AIOs. The questions suggest that color inkjet AIOs may not be the right choice for all users. But with a few advances, printer makers have inspired some guarded hope for the future. Printer manufacturers have developed ink-subscription systems that are cost-effective and take out the hassle of maintaining printers. This also keeps a steady flow of income into their pockets. There are also more printers with larger ink reservoirs, which don’t require refilling as often. Wireless connections can still be flaky, but they’re getting better: HP and Canon have finally adopted 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and HP is advertising “self-healing” wireless connections, meaning the printers detect connection issues and attempt to resolve them automatically or provide guided troubleshooting rather than just tossing up an indecipherable error message. As smartphones have become more popular than PCs, mobile printing apps keep improving.

AIOs still enjoy popularity despite continuing quality concerns. AIOs provide a convenient one-stop shopping for your home’s document production needs. A midrange inkjet AIO makes a lot of sense for anyone who prints or copies on a daily basis, scans documents from time to time, and maybe even needs to fax on occasion. Although their prices have dropped since our coverage began, color laser AIOs remain much more costly than inkjets. Although AIOs can do everything and are masters of all, they offer the best way for small businesses to meet their document production requirements.

Our goal was to find the best printer for both home and office use, at a price that is affordable. Here’s what we looked at to find the best of the best.

Printer type: The perfect AIO is probably an inkjet, as laser printers are still too expensive for most people. We did however test the color laser all in-ones to be able to recommend one for home and small business owners who are more demanding.

Automated Document Feeder: A wonderful AIO should have an Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), as it automates large scanning and copying jobs, which will save you time.

AIOs can do duplex printing and scanning. The holy grail is single-pass, duplex scan and copy printers.

Low operating cost: Ink or toner for black-and-white prints shouldn’t cost more than a few cents per page, and color prints shouldn’t be more than three or four times as much. Also, manufacturers that offer a subscription plan for ink will be taken into consideration.

Outstanding print and scan quality. We think that all modern printers deliver excellent results. But, not every model produces sharp text, accurate colors or beautiful photos. All other things being equal, the printer we choose will produce the best printing quality. The same applies to scanners. Here, we evaluate both the quality of scans overall and whether the ADFs keep the bulk scanning job straight.

Mobile printing standards support: All printers should be compatible with smartphone and tablet printing protocols such as Apple Air, Google Cloud Print, and Google Cloud Print. Mopria, Print and Mopria.

HP Office. HP Office. The Jet Pro 9015e might not be HP’s best inkjet allin-one printer but it does offer the most power. The setup is simple and the printer performs well in terms of quality, speed and reliability. Its running costs are a reasonable 2.2C/ per page for printing in black or 8.9C/ for color, with the option to join HP’s Instant Ink program for set-and-forget refills and cheaper color printing. Instant Ink can be tried for six months in the included box. The printer stands out amongst its more clumsy competitors. This is enough to forgive the tiny touchscreen and fragile output tray. The two-year warranty is more than most printer manufacturers in this category.

The Office. The setup of the Jet Pro 9015e printer is simple, which it shares with its Office counterpart. Jet stablemates. Go to 123.hp.com and enter your product name. Then, click the Download Button. Start installer. In a matter of minutes, the installer will guide you through connecting your AIO, registering it, and getting it working with your computer. This process feels modern and easy enough to make other brands’ clunky installs seem a bit outdated. Download the HP Smart app on your phone (Android and iOS) to quickly add the printer. It’s easy and painless.

HP Smart apps are easy to use and can be customized to show the functions that you most use at the top.

The box contains enough ink to produce approximately 850 black-and white pages and 420 colour pages. Depending on your usage, that could last you a while. But when it comes time to re-up, running costs are user-friendly: A full set of HP 962 XL ink cartridges costs you about $150 and lasts for approximately 2,000 monochrome pages or 1,600 color. Bear in mind that these estimates are based on the stated page yields for each cartridge type; your real-world results are likely to differ due to the ink that gets wasted during cleaning cycles. Another option is to use third-party Ink. This ink can cost significantly less but will not give perfect results, particularly for glossy photos.

HP also has the Instant Ink subscription. This allows you to pick from different tiers, depending on how much paper you intend to print each month. You can select between 50 and 700 pages. With Instant Ink the cost per page is reasonable 6.6C/ at worst and 3.6C/ at best but the great thing about the program is that printing color pages costs the same as printing in black. Instant Ink automatically delivers new cartridges whenever ink runs out. The service automatically sends new cartridges when ink runs out. You can also change your subscription tier whenever you like, if your needs change. Currently, the 9015e comes with a six-month free trial of Instant Ink, and you can get more free months by referring friends.

The Office. Jet Pro 9015e’s greatest flaw is likely its one 250-sheet tray. The standard paper tray is 250-sheets. But it could be too small for some home and business users. The only problem with this printer is that you can’t use the one-piece tray. You’ll need to replace your paper each time you want to print on legal, label, photo stock or resume papers. The Office has a dual-tray option that allows you to print on two different types of paper every day. Jet Pro 9025e The printer’s slide-and fold output tray extends from the front. We are not enamored by the HP Jet Pro 9025e. Office’s best feature is its slide-and-fold output tray. The Jet Pro 8720 (our previous pick) had an output tray built into the large, touchscreen-enabled display. As a result, documents weren’t as likely to be lost or get scattered around your office. The new model is different.

Displays aside, the display on the 9015e measures just 2.7 inches. It’s simple to use, but it can be difficult to access the tiny buttons such as the Gear icon to go to the Settings menu. Expect some mis-taps.

This port doesn’t allow you to print Word documents. However, PDFs and images can be printed from this port. Ben Keough. While the USB port at the left is handy for a printer this cheap, buyers should know that Word files and JPEGs are not allowed through it. Scans can also be saved as JPEGs/PDFs to USB drives.

The Office. Jet Pro 9015e prints perfectly good snapshots, and can provide vivid color and sharpness. Unfortunately, these colors can’t be accurately reproduced. We found that glossy photos made with the 9015e displayed a lot of contrast and slightly misaligned colors in our prints. Although this issue isn’t likely to affect you if making prints for the fridge only, it will be a concern if you’re printing to take home. If, however, you love to photograph, you’ll want to invest in a photo printer. In duplex mode, the 9015e stops at each end to let ink from the previous side dry. However, the 9015e (and other models in the current Office. Jet Pro series) seem to take a longer pause than other printers we tested. Speed is an overhyped concern for home printer use, but staring at the “Ink drying, please wait” message gets to be a bit of a drag, especially with large print jobs.

Brother MFC-J805DW Brother’s entry level AIO offers the best value for money. Although it may not be the fastest or most well designed AIO, nor the easiest to use, Brother’s AIO produces beautiful scans and prints.

The Brother MFCJ805DW printer is an excellent budget choice. It is affordable, but it does everything well. Still, finding a cheap printer that’s across-the-board good enough is tougher than it sounds. The MFC-J805DW is a great choice for people with limited budgets and low productivity. It has a combination of affordable up-front prices, high quality printing, and cheap running expenses.

Here’s what you need to know: The MFC–J805DW retails for about $120. This printer comes with 1,080 sheets of black and 720 sheets of color. It’s still not up to true ink tank-style printer standards, but it is comparable with 265 monochrome pages and 310 colour pages included with HP Office. Jet Pro 8025e, and you begin to understand how generous Brother’s offering really is. A brand new set ultra-high quality cartridges for MFCJ805DW costs approximately $240. They contain enough ink to produce 6,000 black pages and 5,000 colored pages. These calculations work out to less then 1C/per-page monochrome or 4.7C/per-page color. Except for ink tank printers, which are generally not our favorite, we were hard pressed to find another printer that could match those numbers.

Great print quality. The text we tested was clear and bright, with fonts lower than six points becoming a bit difficult to read. Graphics were vibrant, although not quite with the vibrance we would get from HP Ink. The MFC-J805DW can print bordersless photos, but it can still produce decent glossy photos. It has excellent sharpness, more realistic saturation, and contrast that HP’s accelerated output. Some photographers might find the color tones a little too warm or greenish. The results can be used for framing casually or as fridge displays.

It is obvious that the Brother printer’s installer will tell you right away. This installer operates and looks exactly like Windows XP. If you allow it to, especially on Windows computers, it will install a slew if helper applications. The MFC-J805DW still worked well online. The MFC-J805DW’s large, rubber buttons make it easy to use. It also has a small LCD that is non-touch. Although entering our Wi-Fi password using the phone-style keyboard was slightly less frustrating than the HP 9015e touchscreen QWERTY keyboard it is something that you will have to do once.
