Whenever someone shares an alert on the Neighbors App about crime or safety in your radius, you will get a notification on your phone and tablet. Use the app to stay safe and informed about what’s going on around you.

Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2.

Ring’s new $249.99 Video Doorbell Pro 2 is the best video doorbell yet from a company that has nearly become a household name for video doorbells. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 has a great field of vision and excellent video quality. It also offers many customizable options for recording zones and notifications. You can even pull up live streaming from your smartphone’s Ring app. If you can afford the cost, can put up with a wired or wireless doorbell, and do not mind Ring’s Neighbors apps, nor police partnerships, the Video Doorbell Pro 2 might be right for you.

The new Video Doorbell Pro 2 is Ring’s top-of-the-line model, replacing the original Video Doorbell Pro from 2017. The Pro 2 doorbell does not come with a battery, unlike other Ring models. You will need to run wiring to provide power. But because it doesn’t have to house a battery, the Pro 2 is much smaller than Ring’s battery-powered options and has faster response times when you want to pull up the feed on your phone or an Echo Show smart display. It also can work with an existing doorbell chime in your home if you have one.

Despite the fact that it is more costly than others Ring models, the Pro 2 does not really appear any better. This housing is 100% plastic. The bottom has the Ring logo. Google’s Nest Hello Logitech, Circle View Doorbell or Google’s Nest Logitech are more appealing options.

Ring has made a variety of improvements to this model, the main change being how the Video Doorbell Pro 2 records video clips. The Pro 2 records video in a 1536 x 1506-pixel square format, making it easier to view visitors from all sides. It also makes it much easier to see if packages have been left at your doorstep because you can see the ground right in front of the doorbell.

My Pro 2 allowed me to view my whole porch better than 16:9 Rings. The Pro 2 also has a wider field of views, so I could see everything from the front of my house. HDR allows for the balance of bright skies as well as visitors’ faces. There is also an automatic infrared mode for night shots that can be activated if light levels drop below a certain level. The porch light I have at my doorway was sufficient enough to keep the Pro 2 in normal video mode, so I was able to have full-color video captures at night without blinding visitors with a light on the doorbell itself like what happens with the Circle View Doorbell.

Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 now has a wider and more square-shaped camera.

Even though it is more expensive than the average Video Doorbell Pro 2, it’s still quite plasticky. It also looks cheaper when compared with other options.

With support for 5GHz Wi Fi and 2.4GHz WiFi, accessing the Pro 2’s video feed from my smartphone’s Ring app takes only a few seconds. Asking an Echo Show to display this feed is easy. The Echo Show and Fire TV devices will even automatically display the feed from the camera whenever the doorbell is rung. Video feeds from older doorbells would take a lot of time. The newest crop of video doorbells is much quicker than I expected.

Pro 2 has a brand new 3D Motion Detection feature. This allows you to track the movements and locations of anyone on your property from far away. This app is a little too good to be true: it will display a top-down view showing movements as colored dots overlaid on your map. It allows you view the exact location of a person on your property. However, the feature’s range is very limited at 30 feet. This means that it only can reach about one-third of my driveway. Although it was a great demonstration of technology, it didn’t prove to be of much value to me.

Agree To Continue: Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2

Smart devices require that you accept certain terms and condition before you can use them. This is a list no one ever reads. Each agreement is too numerous for us to fully understand and review. Because these agreements don’t have a lot of people reading them and can’t even negotiate, we are going to begin counting the times you need to press “agree”.

Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 must be created (or have already been) through the Ring app. Creating an account involves agreeing to Ring’s terms of service privacy policy . These terms must be agreed to before you can use any Ring products.

To integrate a Ring bell with Amazon Alexa, you’ll need an account.

Final count: There are two obligatory agreements. You can also have as many or few optional agreements depending upon the services that you link to your Ring account.

Ring has made it easier to manage these features. These features can be disabled in the Control Center section of the app. You also have the option to block the request from public agencies for clips from your video. These features can also be disabled by enabling end-to-end encrypted, which limits the possibility of sharing clips with others. Ring could make both these options disabled by default. This would allow owners to decide whether they want them enabled or disallowed during set up.

Ring’s portfolio of video doorbells has grown significantly over the past couple of years, and it can be confusing to figure out which one is right for your needs. This Pro 2 video doorbell camera is simple to use, and you can hook it up to your existing wiring. The Pro 2 doorbell is for you if you are looking for the highest performance, and are part of Amazon’s Echo ecosystem.

Photography by Dan Seifert /The Verge Correction March 31, 2020: An earlier review of this camera claimed the 3D Motion Detection function allowed you see movement outside the camera’s frame. It can detect movement within the frame of the camera only, which is inaccurate. We apologize for this error.
